Watching Bill Maher on Larry King Live last night reminded me how much I miss his late night “Politically Incorrect” series on ABC. I don’t miss it enough to shell-out the extra $30 a month for his “Real Time” show on HBO, though. Honestly, if it weren’t for the stupid inventions on this site, I’d shut it down and direct everyone to Maher’s Forum site from HBO . His politics and mine are frighteningly similar.
The only objection I have to Maher is his negativity. His consistent dower outlook makes me look like a pie-eyed, tree-hugging, ‘can’t-we-all-just-get-along’ hippie communist. And, I’m usually not. Sometimes I think the negativity that allows him to berate someone else’s solutions gets in the way of his discovery of the right solutions. Lets say, you find yourself having to build a giant canal connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through mosquito-infested rainforest using only a couple of Army-guys, a pack mule, and a dumpster-full or orphans. Bill Maher can only tell you how stupid it is, and how stupid you are for trying.
Maher may not be the guy to explain how to get something done, but he can tell you how NOT to. I suppose in a world where business-owners need outside advice and extensive certifications on the function and use of a toilet and political officials appear to have the memory capacity of goldfish, knowing how not to do something might be a good start.

Totally agree with you about Maher. I do pay for the HBO so I see him every Friday night. My views are also scary similar to his.
